Stolen Key West Captain Morgan Statue Found Partying With Students

Statue taken from front of Walgreen's found in college dorm

After nearly a week partying with students in Key West, Captain Morgan is back in his rightful place.

The five-foot statue of the rum company pirate that was stolen from a Walgreen's last Tuesday was finally recovered Monday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Officers responded to the convenience store at 2805 North Roosevelt Boulevard on Oct. 18 after the manager reported the swashbuckler missing.

Police even went so far as to issue a "Be On The Lookout" alert for the statue, which is valued at $500.

But deputies say a tipster called to report the statue was making the rounds at the dorms at Florida Keys Community College, and after a brief search early Monday, the captain was found, covered in Fantasy Fest beads.

None of the students would admit to taking the statue, though some told deputies he'd been busy going from room to room, "wherever the party was taking place," deputies said.

The captain was returned to Walgreen's. None of the students had to walk the plank.
