More Storms Sweeping Across South Florida

Strong storms were moving through South Florida Wednesday afternoon with a threat for isolated severe thunderstorms along with heavy rain and lightning.

NBC 6 declared a First Alert Weather Day as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service for southeastern Broward and north-central Miami-Dade.

The NWS said a severe thunderstorm was located near Krome Avenue and U.S. 27 and was moving northeast at 30 mph. Wind gusts of 60 mph were reported and some damage to roofs, siding and trees was expected.

Meanwhile, the FAA issued a ground stop due to the stormy weather, Miami International Airport officials said. It has since been lifted.

Flood advisories and significant weather advisories had been issued for parts of Miami-Dade and Broward throughout the early and late afternoon.

The earlier advisories warned of frequent to excessive lightning, small hail and 45 to 55 mph winds.
