Three Miami-Dade high schools were on alert Monday morning after a female student posted a threat on social media showing a gun, officials said.
The social media post had a picture showing a gun and a warning for students from three high schools – Ferguson, Varela and South Dade – not to go to school on Monday.
The picture was captioned "I hate people."
The threat turned out to be a false alarm, but still landed that teen in trouble. School board officials said she's being charged with a felony charge of making written threats to kill or do bodily harm and a misdemeanor charge of interference with an educational institution.
The Ferguson principal released an email saying the message has proven to be non-credible and that school police promptly investigated and apprehended the person responsible.
That student, who is in the IB program at Ferguson high school, admitted to making the threats against the schools after she was taken into custody officials said.
Officials say the school day continued as normal at all three locations.

"It serves as a reminder of the importance of students using social media responsibly," said Daisy Gonzalez with Miami-Dade Public Schools. "They really need to think before posting anything because it could have long-lasting effects."
