Student Hospitalized After Fight at Piper High School

A Broward County student was hospitalized following a fight with another student in a high school cafeteria Thursday, school authorities said.

The student, who has not been identified, sustained a head injury after an altercation occurred between him and another male at Piper High School in Sunrise, according to the Broward school board. Many teens stood around during the lunch period and watched as one of the students was knocked to the ground, witnesses said.

Students described a gruesome scene which left one of the two boys laying in a "pool of blood" on the ground.

"He had blood all over him, gushing from his head, all over his arm," Michelle Ortiz said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed a cause for a fight, which students said may have been sparked by either a Twitter fued or an issue involving the brother of one of the students involved. The Sunrise Police Department is investigating the incident and questioning the other student involved. No arrests have been made, police said.
