Student Made Threats on Social Media: Davie PD

Davie Police confirm that a student is being questioned for allegedly making threats on social media which prompted increased security measures at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, along with other nearby schools in Broward County.

Both Davie Police and the Archdiocese responded to the threats at the school Thursday morning, located at 5451 South Flamingo Rd. in Southwest Ranches.

The threat also impacted nearby schools, including Dillard High School.

According to Davie police, the student in question is a sophomore.

In an email sent home to parents, it's indicated that the student posted a video to social media which prompted the investigation. School officials and police have determined that there is no immediate threat to the school, and that they were working with Davie Police to investigate.

The email also states that the student in question would not be on the campus, and that additional security measures would be taken, including the addition of more security personnel on campus.

It is not likely the student will be arrested over the threats.
