A 16-year-old student who was stabbed by a schoolmate at a South Florida high school Thursday is expected to recover, school officials said. NBC 6's Ari Odzer reports.

"He's doing okay right now at the moment, but right now they still got him up in the room right now so we're just waiting. God blessed everything that he's alive and didn't lose his life in this situation," said Watson.

The suspect, Kimanie Jumanee, also a student, is in the custody of the Sunrise Police Department and will be charged with attempted murder, according to police.

During a news conference, school officials described the stabbing as an isolated incident. The lockdown was lifted by midday and the school resumed normal operations.

"I wanted to assure them that the school is safe, you know, this is a very isolated incident. Piper is a great school as you know, last year it became an A rated school," said Robert Runcie, Superintendent Broward County Public Schools.

Just last week, one student was taken to the hospital with a head injury and another was arrested after a fight broke out in the school cafeteria.
