No Bond for Sunrise Mom Accused of Kidnapping Daughter

A Sunrise mom accused of kidnapping her daughter more than a year ago to avoid vaccinating the child, and whose case was featured on a television program on CNN, was denied bond Wednesday.

Megan Elizabeth Everett, 23, was arrested in Palatka in north central Florida, by FBI special agents and Putnam County Sheriff's Deputies earlier this month after more than a year in hiding.

At a court appearance Wednesday, Broward Judge John Hurley denied bond for Everett.

Everett was wanted for the May 2014 kidnapping of her daughter, 2-year-old Lilly. The case was featured on CNN's "The Hunt with John Walsh" and a tip from the public led investigators to her and the child in Palatka, officials said.

Lilly's father, Robert Baumann, said he and Everett constantly argued because Everett refused to vaccinate Lilly. Robert also shared other concerns with a judge including a picture of Lilly appearing to be surrounded by boxes of ammunition.

Everett had been sharing custody with Baumann. He went to pick up the girl last May and found that she and her mother were gone.

Baumann was reunited with his daughter Sunrise, while Everett was taken into custody.

Everett was ordered held without bond and faces several charges including kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. It's unknown if she's hired an attorney.
