Cops Kill Suspect Who Burned Mother to Death

Clifford Sheldon McLean was killed by a Pembroke Pines police officer

Pembroke Pines police shot and killed a Miami-Dade man accused of killing his own mother by setting her on fire.

On Monday, Clifford Sheldon McLean, 24, allegedly doused 47-year-old Cutie Lynn Mclean with a flammable liquid and lit her on fire in front of her home in northwest Miami-Dade. The wayward son also burned his father, Clifford McLean Sr., police said.

The suspect fled the scene in his mother's Nissan Maxima and then committed a home invasion robbery in the area at 430 NW 139 St. Police said he stole a City of North Miami vehicle parked at the house and disappeared.

Police said he resurfaced on the grid after hitting four cars during his get away attempt. McLean then got into an altercation with one of the motorists he hit and that's when Pembroke Pines police showed up on scene. McLean then tried to fight the officer and was eventually shot. He died at the hospital a short time later.

Still, investigators are puzzled by what may have triggered the violent act. Neighbors and relatives were stunned at Monday afternoon's events and said the family was close knit and recently celebrated New Year's together.

"My nephew is not angry because he loved his mom dearly, " McLean's aunt said. "Something happened to my nephew. Somewhere along the line something medically went wrong what we don't know."
