Suspect Dies at Hospital Less Than Day After Arrest

Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating after an Opa-locka man died in a hospital less than a day after being arrested.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, deputies responded Wednesday evening to a possible robbery at the Exxon gas station at 600 N.W. 27 Avenue near Fort Lauderdale.

The deputies reported finding Markus Clark, 26, struggling with a clerk in an enclosed register area. After climbing through an opening in the protective enclosure, it reportedly took several deputies to get control of Clark, who authorities say appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic.

Clark was arrested on charges of burglary, battery and false imprisonment. Officials say Clark was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. He was pronounced dead Thursday morning.

The Broward medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
