Suspect Inadvertently Asks Deputy for a Ride

A man is behind bars after he inadvertently asked an undercover officer for a ride in Deerfield Beach Wednesday, police said.

Broward Sheriff's deputies said a man named Kareem Moore, who had just stolen an Audi SUV, dumped the car on the side of Interstate 95, crossed the highway and jumped a fence before approaching the officer, who was in an unmarked BSO car at 300 NE 2nd Street.

"He asked for a ride and our officers accommodated him," Deputy Rob Schankenberg said.

He said while the car was unmarked, the man inside was clearly marked as a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy.

The deputy was part of a Deerfield Beach ground search to find Moore, who allegedly led deputies on a chase down Dixie Highway.

"It doesn't typically happen that way, but we'll take it any way we can get it," Lighthouse Pointe Police Chief Ross Lacata said.

BSO was assisting Lighthouse Pointe Police after they allegedly spotted Moore speeding from a Northwest 23rd Avenue home in the Audi Quattro. Officials said Moore burglarized that home before he drove away.

"The guy kicked in the door here with a foot," said homeowner Ricardo Fernandez.

Fernandez said it took Moore about six minutes to make off with his valuables, including watches, a Louis Vuitton bag and two handguns with ammo.
