Suspect Robbed, Beat Elderly Man at Burger King, Fled to Apartment Building's Roof: Miami Police

Two suspects robbed and beat an elderly man at a Miami Burger King Wednesday, but the second suspect did not surrender to police until after he had barricaded himself on an apartment building’s roof for about an hour, authorities said.

Miami Police said they set up a perimeter in the area of Southwest 6th Street and 13th Avenue in Little Havana after the victim was robbed at a nearby Burger King.

Police were called to the scene, and one of the suspects was immediately caught. The other was almost detained, but he fought and punched an officer, then ran towards the apartment building at 1306 Southwest 6th St., police said.

He was seen climbing the building’s fire ladders, and barricaded himself on the roof, police said.

He surrendered about an hour later and faces several charges, police added.

Police did not release the name of either suspect or the victim. He was not seriously injured and is expected to be OK, police said.
