Suspect Stayed on Cell Phone During Davie Armed Robbery: Police

An armed suspect stayed on his cell phone during a robbery of a check-cashing store in Davie that was caught on camera.

The robbery happened Monday at the Advance America at 5985 Stirling Road, Davie police officials said.

The suspect waited for an employee to arrive and made contact with her as she opened the business, police said. He then showed the employee a handgun in his waistband and made her disable the alarm and take him to the safe.

The employee was forced to remove all the cash from the safe - about $23,000 - and put it in a grocery bag.

Surveillance footage from the business showed the suspect holding a phone up to his ear throughout the entire robbery. The employee wasn't injured.

Police said they believe the suspect is a serial robber and is responsible for numerous other cash advance store robberies throughout Florida.

The suspect is described as a black male with a possible Caribbean/Island accent, police said. He's considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
