Suspect in North Miami Beach Police Officer Shooting Seeking Bond

The suspect in the shooting of a North Miami Beach Police officer was back in court Monday seeking his release from jail on bond.

Elton Bandoo, 26, is being held without bond on an attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer charge in the Feb. 6 shooting of Officer Lino Diaz.

At Monday's hearing, North Miami Beach detectives said they found personal information with names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth of about 200 people during a search warrant of Bandoo's home for alleged unemployment fraud and identity theft.

"These days the economic crimes and the violent crimes go hand in hand," Det. Craig Catlin said.

Detectives said Bandoo, also known as EB-Da Iceman from the group NMB Stunnaz, shot Officer Diaz as the Special Response Team went into the home. Diaz, who spent several days in the hospital, was in court Monday to hear the proceedings.

"I'm feeling much better, recovering, still going through some pain, you know," Diaz said. "But, everyday it gets less and less. I'm able to walk so I'll be out there soon again."

Prosecutors played one of Bandoo's music videos in court and talked about the lyrics. Police believe Bandoo has ties to local gang members. But, his attorney pointed out Bandoo's music is his First Amendment right and doesn't show that he's actually violent.

"Did this search warrant mention weapons?" attorney Seth LaVey asked Det. Catlin.

"No sir," Det. Catlin replied.

"Kilograms of drugs?" LaVey asked.

"No sir," Det. Catlin said.

The bond hearing is expected to continue Tuesday.
