Suspects Accused of Firing at Officers Go Before a Judge

Four people arrested after after a violent crime spree that culiminated with a shootout with police in northwest Miami-Dade, went before a judge Thursday.

The chaotic scene unfolded during rush hour Wednesday through northwest Miami-Dade.

Theodist Grimes, one of the four men wanted for getting into a fight and a car chase while shooting at cops outside the Yellow Meat Market on NW 79th street.

Grimes is charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.

Detectives say a neighbor called 911 to report the fight. One of the other suspects, Bienvenido Valera, told the bond judge that he was the victim of the armed robbery inside the convenience store and was defending himself.

"He is a convicted felon and was in possession of a firearm, he is out on bond," the prosecutor said. Valera told the judge it was the other guys, it wasn't him, that he was fighting for his life.

Police also arrested Antonio Jones, another convicted felon who allegedly had a gun. In fact, police confiscated several weapons from the suspects after a brief chase outside the meat market.

"Mr. Jones was coming to the aid of another individual who had just had an armed robbery perpetrated upon him," said Jones' Public Defender.

Jones got a $5,000 bond and Valera, $1,000 bond. A fourth suspect, Wendell Clark already bonded out of jail. No officers were hurt during the chase and shooting.
