Suspended University of Miami Quarterback Kevin Olsen No Longer With School

The University of Miami said Monday that suspended Miami Hurricanes quarterback Kevin Olsen is no longer a student at the school after his arrest on DUI charges.

"We wish him the very best in the future," said a statement released Tuesday.

Olsen was arrested early Monday on charges of DUI possession of a stolen or fake driver's license, police said.

The 19-year-old was booked into Miami-Dade jail shortly after 4 a.m., according to online jail records. He was held on $6,000 bond and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

According to a South Miami Police arrest report, officers were investigating a battery when they encountered Olsen, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger.

An officer noticed Olsen had blood shot watery eyes, an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech, the report said.

Olsen didn't perform well on field sobriety tests and "exhibited severe signs of impairment due to the consumption of an unknown alcoholic beverage," the report said.

While searching Olsen, officers found he had several identifications, including two from Maryland, one from North Carolina, one from Florida and one from New Jersey. All of the licenses had Olsen's name except the Florida one, which had the name of senior Hurricanes fullback Ronald Regula, the report said.

Olsen, a redshirt freshman from Wayne, N.J., was suspended for the Hurricanes' season opener against Louisville, a 31-13 loss, after a positive drug test. He never played for Miami.

Last year, Olsen was suspended for the Russell Athletic Bowl for violating team rules, according to The Miami Herald.

Olsen becomes the third player to leave Miami in recent months following an arrest. A pair of linebackers, Alex Figueroa and JaWand Blue, were dismissed in July after being charged with sexual battery against a student.

Miami coach Al Golden says he believes Olsen will have a bright future. Golden says Olsen, who was suspended for breaking team rules earlier this season, "needs this time to look at himself and obviously move forward."

Golden has known Olsen's family for nearly two decades. Olsen's brother Greg Olsen played at Miami before going to the NFL.
