RIVERSIDE, CA - OCTOBER 24: Members of the white supremacist group, the National Socialist Movement, hold swastika flags at the NSMs anti-illegal immigration rally near a Home Depot store on October 24, 2009 in Riverside, California. It is the second such demonstration in Riverside by the Detroit-based Neo-Nazi group in the past month. The last rally was soon broken up by police after clashes with counter-protesters. Someone has been drawing swastikas all over the University of Miami's campus and President Donna Shalala is calling for a criminal investigation into the matter.
The hate symbols have appeared in or near Hecht Residential College, one of the freshman dorms, and in the Pentland towers building on separate occasions this month.
"The University of Miami has zero tolerance for acts of bigotry and harassment of a resident student staff member," Shalala said in a statement to UM students and staff. "Defacing university property with a swastika symbol is not only a crime, it is a hate crime and a deplorable attack on our community."
The swastikas have been found in bathrooms, hallways and an elevator, according to the Miami New Times.
Anyone with information on who's been drawing the symbols is asked to call campus police at (305) 284-6666.
