Swimming Advisory Issued for Part of Intracoastal

A swimming advisory was issued on Monday for an area of the Intracoastal Waterway in the area of Sunny Isles and Aventura after an 18-inch sewer force main ruptured a day earlier.

The areas includes Maule Lake, Little Maule Lake, Dumbfoundling Bay, Oleta River State Park, and the Intracoastal Waterway between 193rd Street and Haulover Inlet.

"The force main resulted in approximately 250,000 gallons of sewage spilled with some making contact into surface waters," the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department said.

The department of health is testing the waters. The advisory means everyone should avoid contact with the water including swimming and recreational activities.
