Police are investigating after an off-duty Transportation Security Administration Officer was found dead in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.
The body of Ernesto Lluberes, 41, was found over the weekend inside his car in the area of Northwest 72nd Street and 12th Avenue, authorities said Tuesday. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.
Miami-Dade Police are investigating the death and the TSA is cooperating with the investigation, TSA spokeswoman Sari Koshetz said.
Family members told NBC 6 that Lluberes was shot to death, but police haven't confirmed how he died.
His tearful mother, Violeta Lluberes, said in Spanish that her son probably knew who shot him several times, that her heart is bleeding, and that she is devastated.
Records showed Lluberes was arrested in 2001 on a misdemeanor battery charge and later acquitted.
He was also recognized in 2006 with a Good Samaritan award at Miami International Airport after assisting an employee who had a heart attack.
Anyone with information on the death is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
