Health officials say a Tampa Bay area man has been diagnosed with West Nile virus.
The Department of Health in Hillsborough County said in a news release Thursday that he is the eighth person in Florida to contract the mosquito-borne illness this year.
The man's name was not released.
The agency issued an advisory for residents of Hillsborough County. They urge residents to protect themselves from getting bitten by mosquitoes.
Officials say it's best for people to cover themselves with clothing or repellent outdoors. Any outdoor containers should be drained to keep mosquitoes from multiplying.
