A Tampa man was arrested after neighbors caught him having sex with one of his pet pit bulls in his backyard, police said.

Bernard Marsonek, 57, was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, sexual activity involving animals and two counts of a felon in possession of a firearm, Hillsborough County Jail records showed

He was being held on $17,500 bond Wednesday and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

According to a Tampa Police report obtained by WFLA, neighbors flagged down officers when they claim they couldn't stop Marsonek from allegedly having sex with a large pit bull, one of eight found on his property.

The crowd of neighbors said they yelled at Marsonek but he refused to stop having sex with the dog, the report said.

When officers searched Marsonek's home, they found and seized a firearm with ammunition, the report said.

Jail records showed Marsonek had been arrested in the past, most recently for driving with a suspended license, in 2005.
