One of the perks of Miami-Dade's recently removed mayor appears to be taking county taxpayers for a ride.
The 2010 BMW 550i the county leased for former mayor Carlos Alvarez is costing $23,899.40, according to the Miami Herald.
That's the difference the county was charged to end the 30-month lease 20 months early. The county had paid for the lease in full up front in June to the tune of about $41,000.
The lease runs to December 2012, when Alvarez's term would have ended. But with last month's historic recall, Alvarez returned the pricey ride with 5,216 miles on it at a cost of $37,849, or $7.26 for each mile he drove the German auto.
Had Alvarez stayed in office, he would have paid $794 a month to the county for the remaining 20 months. Luckily for Alvarez, he won't have to pay a cent.
"No, he won’t be paying that," Miami-Dade spokeswoman Suzy Trutie told the Herald. "That's the loss we take."
