Teen Accused of Snatching iPad From Child Accepts Plea Deal

A teen accused of snatching an iPad from a young boy was in court Tuesday to hear his sentence, and he accepted a plea deal.

The theft happened over the summer at a hair salon in Tamarac.

Images of a teenager robbing a four-year-old boy were fresh on the minds of those in Broward County Court Tuesday, as that 16-year-old faced punishment.

"Not only did it show a tremendous amount of callousness, but I think it touches everyone that a little child could be taken advantage of so egregiously," said Maria Schneider, Broward County State Attorney's Office.

Aaron Sapp accepted a plea deal for what he did inside the hair salon back on July 24. Surveillance video shows Sapp snatching the iPad from a vulnerable child and then taking off.

Prosecutors said Sapp has made a turnaround since then, admitting to the crime and writing an apology to the child.

"I'm hoping this young man is redeemable and hoping people have been so shocked at his actions that he's really thinking about the road he's taken up to this point and we're hoping for the best," Schneider said.

The child Sapp stole from received another iPad from a Good Samaritan a few days after the robbery.

As for Sapp, the plea deal states he will spend a year in jail, with three months credit for time already served. He will be on probation for four years and must complete high school.
