Teen Girl Takes Plea Deal in Killian High School Stabbing

A 17-year-old girl who allegedly stabbed her Killian High School classmate accepted a plea deal Tuesday that will keep her out of prison.

The teen will remain in a juvenile maximum risk facility after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office said.

She will stay in the facility until authorities deem her fit to be released, officials said. She would age out of the facility on her 21st birthday but she could be released earlier based on psychological assessments, officials said.

The teen was taken into custody after police say she stabbed fellow student DeAndre Johnson at the school on March 31. The 15-year-old Johnson, a prominent member of the school's football team, had his right chest plate and lungs punctured and had a severed artery. He spent weeks in the hospital.

Johnson and the girl do not know each other. But her attorney claims she is the victim of bullying and says she was raped at another school.

Johnson's attorney said he was in favor of the plea deal.

"DeAndre was just millimeters away from death," attorney Judd Rosen said. "He's made a tremendous recovery, he's looking forward to going back to playing football."
