Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Friday morning in Key Biscayne. It happened around 7:45 a.m. along Crandon Boulevard and Harbor Drive.
Miami-Dade Police said a 2008 silver Porsche, driven by 17-year-old Isaias Medina, was traveling at a high rate of speed when Medina lost control while trying to navigate a curve. He struck several trees and the front gate of a residence.
17-year-old Mathew Saldana was in the front passenger seat and 18-year-old Daniela Benavides was in the back.
Benavides was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a student at Pepperdine University in California.
Medina and Saldana were transported to the hospital with head injuries, but were listed in stable condition.
Police said speed was a factor in the crash.
