Teens Arrested in Connection With Good Samaritan's Murder: Miami Police

Two teens are behind bars in connection with the killing of a good Samaritan who was shot while trying to protect a group of kids in Miami.

A 16-year-old suspect is facing charges of first-degree murder and burglary, while 19-year-old Jaquan Mejia faces a burglary charge, Miami Police said Wednesday.

Police said a group of children were playing in front of an apartment building at 3293 Northwest 11th Court on Nov. 13 when a yellow Ford Mustang drove erratically around them.

Bradley Holt was nearby and shouted at the people in the car to try to protect the children, and that's when someone fired a shot from inside the car, hitting Holt, police said.

Holt, 24, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.

Police arrested the 16-year-old suspect for the shooting on Tuesday night, police said. During the arrest, the teen and Mejia broke into a home while trying to flee officers, police said.

Mejia was being held on $7,500 bond Thursday. It's unknown whether he has an attorney. The teen was in juvenile detention.
