Teens Facing Murder Charges After Friend Shot

Pair facing second-degree murder charges in accidental shooting of friend

Two Broward teens charged with second-degree murder in the accidental shooting death of their friend while the trio scouted robbery targets in Boynton Beach are expected to make their first court appearance Wednesday.

The two unidentified boys, ages 14 and 16, have been in police custody following the death of 15-year-old Gian Davis Tuesday morning.

Davis was accidentally shot in the back while he was behind the wheel of a stolen BMW as the trio drove through the Heron Pointe development looking for a place to rob, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office report.

Police say Davis was shot when the gun accidentally went off while one of the other teens played with it in the backseat.

Davis was taken out of the car and left on the ground while the other teens drove away to get rid of the car, the report said.

The friends returned to Davis and called 911 and when officers arrived, they found Davis lying on the ground, the report said. Davis, from Miramar, was taken to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The two teens initially told officers that they'd been the victims of an armed robbery, but later confessed they were in the area to rob someone, the report said.

One of the teens told officers he'd stolen the car near his home in Coconut Creek, but had let Davis drive, the report said.

Both teens are also facing charges of conspiracy to commit residential burglaries.
