What are you doing with those jeans? Let's face it. Many of us have a pair or two just sitting in the closet getting little or no wear. A Broward elementary school says it can put them to good use.

It's called Teens for Jeans, and a simple donation is all it takes to help an important cause.

"The homeless population in Broward county and surrounding counties is much larger due to the foreclosure rates and everything that's happening,” said Christopher Gates of Coconut Palm Elementary.

So the school launched a campaign to give back. It’s a concept the students embraced right away.

"You're giving and not expecting anything in return,” said student Maya Dayan.

Each pair of jeans is headed to His House Children's Home, a shelter for children awaiting foster care.

"It's very common for a child to enter the foster care system with no belongings whatsoever,” said Sabrina Sosa with His House.

The students have collected more than 200 jeans. The campaign will wrap up on Feb. 14th. That's when they plan to “spread some love!" the students shouted out.

Love demonstrated just by cleaning out your closet.

"Find those jeans that might be out of style to you but can benefit somebody else,” Gates said.

"To give them an extra leg to stand on,” Dayan added.

Anyone can donate jeans. Just visit Coconut Palm Elementary on Monarch Lakes Blvd. in Miramar.
