Thanksgiving Meals Given to Thousands in South Florida

Businesses and organizations across South Florida got in the holiday spirit by giving out Thanksgiving dinners to thousands Thursday.

Tray after tray of turkey with all the fixings were handed out at Camillus House in Miami, where they served up more than 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to those falling on hard times.

"If you've ever been homeless with no family, and this is my family, this is my house, so I feel awesome today," Belinda McKee said.

"I feel very good because I'm homeless and sleeping on the street is not a nice thing but now I have a bed upstairs," Darnell Davis said.

Over in Little Havana, the Kiwanis Club celebrated its 15th year of serving Thanksgiving dinner to more than a hundred seniors at Smathers Plaza.

"Some of the residents here have their family members that are not close by so if we wouldn't provide this Thanksgiving celebration they wouldn't be able to celebrate or be giving a day of thanks," Kiwanis Club member Tony Lorenzo said.

More Cuban style Thanksgiving meals were served at Bongos Cafe in Hollywood at an event hosted by none other than Gloria and Emilio Estefan.

"This is my favorite event of the year," Gloria Estefan said. "We're not only sharing food like this in a traditional Thanksgiving but we have a lot of games for the kids but sharing time, having a wonderful time."
