The Oasis of the Seas arrives in Fort Lauderdale.
If you were awake in the pre-dawn hours this morning and happened to be looking east, you may have noticed something that vaguely resembled the Titanic floating up the coast.
Actually, what you saw is about five times bigger than the Titanic.
The Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, made its way into South Florida this morning, set to dock at Port Everglades.
Thousands of spectators turned out to watch the $1.5 billion floating city arrive from Finland, where its 16 decks, 2,700 cabins, seven "neighborhoods" (i.e. Central Park, Boardwalk), zip line, and carousel were constructed.
Gone are the days of being forced to eat with fellow passengers and watch crappy cruise-circuit magicians. Now, it's all gourmet cuisine and cupcake boutiques, followed by a show at the ice skating rink.
Or you could just hang out in your floor-to-ceiling glass loft. Which still doesn't change the fact that your trapped with 6,000 other vacationers in the middle of the ocean, with nothing to console you but a frozen daiquiri (or six).
The Oasis of the Seas will embark on its first cruise in December.
