The Q Calls Out The Herald

Quincy Jones isn't feeling the Miami Herald these days.

Quincy Jones is by all accounts a musical genius and one of the most respected names in the recording industry. But he appears to want to be a consultant for the Miami Herald.

In an interview about the recent closing of Vibe, Jones dissed the Herald, basically calling it a dinosaur in a digital age.

“Print and all that stuff is over, we gotta remember that,” Jones told Reuters. The Chicago Tribune, The Seattle Post Intelligencer. The Miami Herald. They’re over the same way as the record business. We have got to get into this century.”

Translation: Online rules and print drools.

To his credit, Jones' sentiment doesn't seem too off-base, considering daily newspapers like the Herald have been losing circulation like a pop diva sheds pounds.

Jones, who started Vibe in the 80s before selling the hip-hop culture magazine in 2006, plans to start Vibe anew, as a strictly online product. That's following the trend among some traditional print media, who see the Web as the future.
