The Week Ahead: 6/25 – 7/1

From political protests to environmental summits, there’s plenty happening in South Florida this week. Here’s a preview of the week ahead:

Protests at Sen. Rubio’s Office: With a vote on the healthcare bill scheduled for this week, a number of South Floridians are planning to protest outside of Sen. Marco Rubio’s office tomorrow. The groups say they want to make the healthcare debate personal.

Arizona Sheriff to Appear in Court on Monday: Controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will go before a judge on Monday. The 85-year-old faces contempt of court charges because he allegedly intentionally ignored a judge’s orders to stop enforcing federal immigration laws.

Biscayne Bay Environmental Meeting: On Wednesday, nearly 30 environmental groups will meet to talk about the trash floating in Biscayne Bay. Organizers want to create a 10-year-plan to reduce the amount of pollution in the bay.

Property Tax Exemption for Firefighters: On Wednesday, about 40 South Florida First Responders will officially file to become exempt from their property taxes. The move comes after the Governor signed the law this legislative session.

NBC 6 Café to Visit Miami Beach: On Friday, a special treat for people in Miami Beach. The NBC 6 Café will make a stop at the Miami Beach Police Department on 11th and Washington. Stop by and meet Sheli, Eric, Kelly and Adam, while enjoying some free coffee and breakfast treats.
