Arrest Made in Gucci Store Heist

Robber smash into store, make off with designer handbags...again

A man was arrested Monday in connection with a heist at a Miami Gucci store, according to WSVN 7

Brazen thieves made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Gucci handbags from the Merrick Park mall early this morning after they drove cars through a store window to get to the expensive bags, police said.

Coral Gables police said they are looking for as many as six other suspects who might have been involved in the crime. They caught the suspect, whose name police did not release, in Little Havana.

The burglary happened just after 5 a.m. this morning, when three cars crashed into the store and a group of men pilfered several of the fancy Italian purses.

Miami police later found a car filled with several Gucci bags, and took a man into custody. Police are still looking for the other two cars.

"We do have a person of interest at this time," said Sgt. Janette Frevola, with the Coral Gables Police Department. "There's a lot of glass on the ground, a lot of tire marks."

It wasn't the first time the store has been hit by high-end thieves. In January, a group of thieves, using the same three-car, early-morning method, made off with several of the designer bags after a brief police chase.
