A third teen who was involved in the fatal collision between two cars and a tractor trailer on a west Broward highway Thursday morning has died, police said.
Anthony Perez, 19, was pronounced dead Friday morning at North Broward Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Perez, from Miami, had been airlifted to the hospital shortly after the crash in critical condition.
Also killed in the crash were 15-year-old Dairon Ledesma, and 19-year-old Ileana Mira, both from Hialeah. Three others, 18-year-olds Raymon Garcia and Angel Lazo and 19-year-old Matthew Foreman were taken to Broward General Medical Center.
The accident happened on the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 about six miles north of I-75 just after midnight. Florida High Patrol investigators say the drivers of an Acura and a Honda had parked their cars in the middle of the highway when a semi-truck approached them and crashed.
Investigators are trying to determine if the two drivers were drag racing.
“That’s something we are looking at. We are going to be investigating to see if that’s a possibility," said Sgt. Mark Wysocky with the Florida Highway Patrol. "We’re in the process of interviewing several witnesses that were on the scene."
