Toddler Left Alone in Drug-Filled Motel: Miami Police

A mother was arrested and her boyfriend is wanted after police say the woman left her 2-year-old son in a motel room filled with drugs all within the boy's reach.

Miami Police said around 4:30 a.m., they were going after a man on a stolen motorcycle. That pursuit led officers into the motel located along Southwest 9th Street and 24th Avenue just outside Little Havana.

Officers couldn't locate the man on the motorcycle, but a woman at the motel led them to a room where the man reportedly lived.

Once inside, officers saw a 2-year-old boy sleeping on the bed. The child was within arms reach of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

The boy's mother, 25-year-old Maidalys Oduardo-Paneque, was arrested and charged with child neglect and drug possession. It's not known if she has hired an attorney.

Police said they're now looking for 26-year-old Osniel Machado in connection with the case.

Machado was recently arrested for grand theft auto and several drug-related charges.

The child, whose birthday is Tuesday, is with the Department of Children and Families, according to police.
