Toy Gun Prompts School Lockdown in Hollywood: Police

Hollywood Police say that a student brought a toy gun to an elementary school Tuesday, prompting a brief lockdown.

The ordeal lasted only a short amount of time at Orange Brook Elementary School, located at 715 South 46th Avenue in Hollywood, police say.

Police said initial reports were that a fifth grader had a handgun in his backpack.

"Hollywood Police responded, we had a school resource officer on site already and during the course of the investigation it was determined the item suspected of being a weapon was actually a toy gun," Hollywood Police spokesperson Jamie Hernandez said.

Broward County Public Schools confirm that the event has been cleared and that no one was injured.

It is not known whether the child will face any disciplinary action.

The incident had some parents who picked up their kids Tuesday afternoon worried.

"Especially with everything that's going on in the world, it's scary," parent Kesha Bedgood said.

No further information was immediately available.
