Trial Resumes For South Florida Man Accused of Posting Photo of Dead Wife to Facebook

The murder trial resumed in South Florida for a man who says he shot his wife in self-defense before posting a photo of her corpse on Facebook.

Prosecutors continued presenting evidence Thursday in the case of 33-year-old Derek Medina following the Veterans Day holiday. Medina faces life in prison if convicted in the August 2013 killing of 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso.

Thursday's testimony was focused on the crime scene and what investigators found there. The picture posted to Facebook was also shown in court.

Defense attorneys said the self-defense claim centers on evidence that Alfonso abused drugs, battered her husband and was involved in Satan worship.

According to Medina, his wife removed a knife from a kitchen drawer and attacked him.

Prosecutors said Medina was a boxer who could overpower her but shot her because she threatened to leave him.

Medina told police he uploaded a photo of Alfonso's body on Facebook to show family what happened. He predicted in the post he would go to prison.

The trial resumes Friday morning.
