Tropical Storm Florence Expected To Weaken, Ernesto Moves Westward

Florence was expected to gradually weaken with the next couple days

Tropical Storm Florence was expected to weaken, while poorly organized Ernesto moved westward on Sunday morning, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

As of 5 p.m., Florence was about 845 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. It was moving west at 14 mph. There were no watches or warnings in effect for the storm, which was expected to gradually weaken within the next couple days.

Meanwhile, Ernesto was located about 210 miles south-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica and about 495 miles east of Cabo Gracias a Dios. It had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was moving west at 20 mph.

Hurricane Season: Special Coverage

A tropical storm watch was issued for Grand Cayman and tropical storm warnings were in effect for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, the coast of Honduras from the border with Nicaragua west to Punta Castilla.
