Tropical Storm Karl Expected to Pass Bermuda Saturday, Could Become Hurricane

Tropical Storm Karl is forecast to pass just east of Bermuda early Saturday.

Karl's maximum sustained winds Friday morning have increased to near 60 mph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says additional strengthening is expected and Karl could become a hurricane as it moves away from Bermuda on Saturday.

As of 5 a.m. EDT Friday, Karl is centered about 305 miles south of Bermuda, where a tropical storm warning is in effect.

Meanwhile, farther east in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Lisa is expected to become a remnant low over the weekend. Lisa's maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph with additional weakening forecast.

Lisa is centered about 860 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
