Tropical Storm Ophelia was expected to increase in speed and strengthen to a hurricane in the next day or so, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday.

Ophelia was expected to continue on its current path through the Atlantic and become a hurricane Friday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Philippe continued to move northwest at 13 mph far out in the Atlantic.

Philippe had maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and was about 1240 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. The storm was expected to strengthen then weaken during the next few days.
