Tropical Storm Rafael Could Become Hurricane Monday: NHC

Tropical Storm Rafael is producing heavy rain and wind over the Leeward Islands

Tropical Storm Rafael could become a hurricane by Monday but is not expected to impact the United States as of Sunday, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

The system is currently located about 100 miles north-northwest of St. Martin, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. It is moving north-northwest at 12 mph and is expected to make a turn north by Monday.
