Truck Fire, Hazmat Issue Back Up Traffic on US-27 in Broward

A tractor-trailer fire caused a hazmat situation on a Broward County road Monday afternoon.

The incident happened in the southbound lanes of US-27 just north of Griffin Road and was causing backups in the area, Pembroke Pines Police said.

Officials said the truck, which was hauling recycled refuse, caught fire around 3 p.m. but the driver was unaware.

Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue units spotted the truck and were able to alert the driver to the fire. Firefighters had him dump the load on the road to keep the truck from catching fire, and were able to put the fire out.

There were no injuries and the truck wasn't damaged.
