A pair of truck thieves are in custody after they led police on an early morning chase that began in Broward and ended in Hialeah Thursday, authorities said.
The chase began around 4 a.m. when the suspects hot-wired a silver Ford F-350 outside a home in the 4700 block of Northeast 15th Way in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The owner of the truck called police after a notification system that alerts him to theft went off.
Before officers located the truck, the thieves had managed to steal a golf cart from the truck owner's neighbor and place it in the back of the truck, the BSO said.
The thieves headed south on I-95, then west on I-595 to I-75 and continued south into Miami-Dade with about a dozen BSO cruisers in tow.
The pair eventually got onto the Palmetto Expressway before exiting and eventually stopping in the area of E. 4th Avenue and 59th Street in Hialeah, the BSO said.
They bailed out but were quickly taken into custody. BSO officials said they live in the area and were trying to make it home.
The suspects were identified as 36-year-old Juan Rodriguez and 28-year-old Gabriel Rodriguez. They face charges of residential burglary and grand theft auto, the BSO said.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and there could be more accomplices, the BSO said.
