Deputies said a tipster alerted them to the Day’s Inn in Islamorada, where the caller said a group of people came in to a dock with a “large number of queen conch.”

After questioning by deputy Nelson Sanchez, who intercepted the pair at the hotel, both admitted to harvesting the animal, the sheriff’s office said.

The conchs, where were found alive, were returned to the water.
