Two People Distract Elderly Surfside Residents, Steal Jewelry: Cops

Police said Miller Mitchell is wanted in connection to one of the thefts.

Police on Tuesday asked for the public's help in finding two people who allegedly posed as water and sewer employees, distracting elderly Surfside residents and then stealing jewelry.

On April 22, Surfside Police say a man identified as Miller Mitchell distracted an elderly victim at the front door while the second person went into the home and stole jewelry from the bedrooms. They weren't wearing uniforms but posed as water and sewer employees, saying there was an emergency water leak and needed to get into the home, police said.

On Monday at around 2:30 p.m. an elderly person told authorities that two men, who said they were water and sewer employees, entered the home claiming they needed a water sample, police said.

They stole a jewelry box from the bedroom, authorities said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Surfside Police at 305-861-4862.
