Two People Shot Outside Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami Beach

Two people were shot outside the Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami Beach Sunday night.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on the departures ramp of the hotel at 4441 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach police said.

Police said one man was shot multiple times and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition. A woman was shot once and also taken to the hospital, where she was in stable condition.

Police said the victims ran through the lobby to seek help. They were identified as 33-year-old Victor Young, of Oakland, California, and 27-year-old Mona Founchea, of Aventura.

"The victims actually did run through the hotel to the northern part of the adjacent lobby," Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said.

The suspect fled on foot and he is still on the loose. Police said he was involved in an altercation with Young moments before the shooting.

"An unfortunate incident occurred last night at Fontainebleau’s Departures Drive. The hotel’s security and management team responded immediately and is assisting the Miami Beach Police during the ongoing investigation," Fontainebleau President Philip Goldfarb said in a statement. "Our top priority is the safety and security of our guests and team members. The hotel is open and continues to operate as usual."
