UCF Student Killed After Struck By Taxi

Brandon Howard, 20, was killed after he was struck by a taxi, officials said

A University of Central Florida student has died after he was fatally struck by an oncoming taxi, officials said.

Brandon K. Howard, 20, was walking along McCulloch Road in Orlando early Saturday, when a taxi swerved right to avoid striking him but hit him with the left front of the vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Howard, of Weston, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the taxi and the three passengers inside were not injured in the crash.

According to UCF, Howard was a registered student since fall 2010 in the College of Sciences.

Grant J. Heston, Associate Vice President of UCF said the accident occurred off-campus.

"This is a tragic start to the semester. Our prayers are with his family and friends," Heston wrote in an email.

Charges are pending the investigation.
