A University of Miami baseball star was busted Wednesday night after he tried to sell pot to some undercover Coral Gables detectives, police said.

Frankie Ratcliff, 19, was arrested shortly after 9 p.m. on the 1200 block of Dickinson Drive on UM's campus.

Police said he had negotiated the sale of 21 grams of marijuana for $220.00 with the undercover officers. When Ratcliff gave consent to the officers to search his apartment, they found three more bags of pot weighing a total of 101 grams, as well as 19 vials of steroids.

Ratcliff was charged with marijuana sale within 1000 feet of a school, marijuana possession over 20 grams and possession of steroids.

A native of Key West, Ratcliff joined the Canes last year as a freshman, impressing coaches with both his bat and his glove and earning starting duties at second base.

By late Thursday morning, UM issued a statement saying Ratcliff had been suspended indefinitely.

“The University of Miami is aware of the arrest of student-athlete Frank Ratcliff," read the university statement.  "The Athletic Department has suspended him indefinitely from all athletic activities."

Ratcliff was in custody as of early Thursday morning in a Miami-Dade lockup on $17,500 bond.
