UM Student Wins Clevelander Pool Boy Contest

University of Miami student Steven De Nicola is the new Clevelander pool boy at Marlins Park.

“I’m excited to dance with all these girls, have a good time, talk to people, swim a little bit, you never know,” De Nicola told NBC 6.

The five finalists were challenged to five contests, which included skimming the pool’s surface, blowing up beach balls, swimming, dancing and a question and answer portion.

Logan Morrison’s girlfriend and once-fired Hallandale Beach lifeguard Tomas Lopez were two of the pool boy judges.

NBC 6 sports producer Michael Cugno tried out for the job but didn’t score the position. About 39 other Miami Marlins fans applied.

"We really got a lot of feedback from female Marlins fans, that they need a little eye candy. We want to be an equal opportunity kind of place," Anna Whitlow, the marketing manager for the Clevelander Hotel, said about the competition.

The winner will attend select Marlins home games, starting July 27 against the San Diego Padres, and be stationed at the park's poolside chair.
