US Coast Guard Offloads 27,000-Pound, $360M Cocaine Seizure in Miami Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday offloaded some 27,000 pounds of cocaine seized in waters worth some $360 million.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa offloaded the cocaine seized in the international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean at Miami Beach.

The drugs were intercepted off the coasts of Mexico, Central America and South America in 12 separate drug smuggling operations over three months also involving the cutters Venturous and Dependable.

"Tampa's crew is extremely proud of the work they accomplished over the past three months. There are few things more frustrating to our sailors than idle deployments, and none more gratifying than accomplishing a very important mission with impacts that resound across our nation," Tampa's commanding officer Cmdr. Nicholas Simmons said in a statement. "For many of the crew, this will be their last deployment on Tampa, and it's one they will always remember."
