Uber Drivers Fined More than $44K in Palm Beach Stings

Palm Beach County officials have fined the ride-hailing service Uber and six of its drivers more than $44,000.

The Palm Beach Post reports the county conducted stings this week in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, issuing citations to Uber and its drivers for operating without proper permits, ID badges, decals and liability insurance.

The California-based company was issued 24 citations, each carrying a fine of $1,650. The six drivers each face $750 in fines.

A spokesman for San Francisco-based Uber derided the citations as "an abuse of power and a deliberate attempt to protect an entrenched industry."

County inspectors said they have conducted weekly stings in search of Uber drivers operating without proper permits and insurance.
